Car Loan Payment Calculator

Auto loan payments depend on more than just the sticker price — your down payment, trade-in value, and local sales tax all change the amount you actually finance. This calculator factors all of that in, then applies standard amortization to estimate your monthly payment, total interest, and total cost of the loan.

How this calculation works

Amount financed = vehicle price − down payment − trade-in value + sales tax + title/registration fees. The monthly payment is then calculated on that financed amount using the standard amortization formula.

Example calculation

A $32,000 vehicle with a $3,000 down payment, no trade-in, 6.5% sales tax, and $500 in fees finances to roughly $31,580. At 6.9% APR over 60 months, that's about $624 per month.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include sales tax in the loan?

Many buyers finance sales tax along with the vehicle. This calculator adds it to the amount financed by default, but you can set it to 0% and pay tax separately if that fits your situation.

Does a trade-in always lower my payment?

Generally yes, since it reduces the amount financed. The exact effect depends on your trade-in's value relative to any amount still owed on it.

Is this connected to USAA, Edmunds, Ford, Toyota, or any lender?

No. This is an independent calculator and isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to USAA, Edmunds, Ford, Toyota, Founders, or any other lender or brand. It's a general-purpose tool for estimating auto loan payments from any lender's rate quote.
